Q: I have been looking into getting my tongue pierced for about 5 and 1/2 months. I've read about the dangers, watched about a million procedures on youtube, and it is something I'm pretty sure I want to do. I am worried about the risks, however. So, my first question is: What would you estimate the percentage of people who get their tongue pierced have problems with it? I plan on going to a member of the APP in Eureka, Oregon or Roseburg, Oregon. I live in a very very very very small town and these places are about 100 miles away. Q: I plan on going to college, Medical school and to specialize in anesthesiology. This is probably a stupid question, but do you think I could wear a retainer in the tongue piercing during my schooling and possibly for work? Do I need to wear a retainer during college? Are they noticeable enough to mark me down on an interview? Q: I honestly hate it when old people get their tongue pierced because I think it looks really trashy. I don't know about you guys, though. So, how old do think is the maximum age to keep a tongue piercing? I do not smoke or do any other drugs and don't plan to, so hopefully I will not get too many wrinkles before I'm 40 :) Q: I have also seen and read about the procedure of a tongue splitting. Now, I promise you I will never ever ever ever ever ever EVER get my tongue split. I am 99% sure that it would keep me from getting a job. But, my question is: Which is more dangerous? A tongue splitting or a tongue piercing? I have heard so many different statements on how long you should wait to change the piercing. I've heard wait until the swelling goes down, wait 2 weeks, wait 6 weeks, etc. I'm pretty sure I'll stick with what my piercer tells me, but I'm still not sure. I plan to wear acrylic beads so I don't ruin my teeth. The website I found the professional piercer(s) (there were only 2) is safepiercing.org What do you think of this website? Do you have any experience with them? Are they qualified? The one I want to go to is called Primal Decor in Eureka, OR The only other one I could go to is called High Priestess in Roseburg, OR They both look professional, but I have not visited them.
